The So Called Time Traveler

Episode 1

By Arlon Staywell

The professor was becoming visibly upset with his visitor, "I cannot believe that.  Time travel is not possible.  It just isn't  ...  ...  it isn't logical."

The visitor adjusted himself perhaps in an attempt to appear more proper and reasonable, "It isn't necessary that you believe every word I say.  Some of the news I have is so far beyond your daily experience that it will be difficult for you to process it anyway.  My immediate message doesn't require an understanding of the entire art of time gymnastics."

The professor interrupted, "Even those who believe in time dilation know very well it is impossible to obtain convincing evidence with conventional equipment."

"Time dilation?," the visitor was intrigued by the professor's wide ranging knowledge.

"It means time proceeds faster or slower in one location compared to another.  And there is no going backward in time," the professor was beginning a rather long explanation.

Then the visitor took a turn at interrupting, "Fascinating as all that is, the immediate concern here is Mikey.  He has a significant role to play in the future of civilization.  There are a few things you need to do for him if he is to be successful."

"My nephew, my sister's son, Michael Cecil Lorenfrisch, is he the one you mean by 'Mikey'?"

"Yes, the future of civilization depends on him," the visitor was very somber.

The visitor or the "time traveler," as he liked to call himself, made arrangements with the professor for further meetings about Mikey.  Then the professor returned to his library to review any materials he might have on the nature of time.
